“In his highly narrative output of those years, Iberê’s approach to landscapes was little more than cursory. Brief, but with enough elements to transform it into an extension of the personality of his characters. As in his landscapes from the 1940s, in which branches, water, sky and earth shared the same register of expression, his Mulher de bicicleta (Woman on a bicycle) (1989) is as one with the phantasmagorical nature that surrounds her. The angular shapes of her arms are reflected in the pointed branches, while the line of the horizon is merely hinted at in the minimum contrast between the ochers of the soil, shimmering with blue shards of reflection, and the earthy blues of the upper section.
