This doll was awarded the golden medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. It belongs to the third period of the house of Emile-Louis Jumeau, who is considered to be the father of articulated dolls. / It belongs to the golden age of dolls (1870-1930), a period in which this industry enjoyed a boom in several European countries, especially France and Germany. Out of all the manufacturers in France, Emile-Louis Jumeau became the most famous. His dolls have porcelain paste heads and articulated papier-mâché bodies with a fitted-in ball. They have silk dresses and leather shoes, and matching hats, which show the social class at which they are aimed: the emerging bourgeoisie.
