Traditional embroidery on contemporary vest

jin te ok (1934 –)

Jin Te Ok: Pioneering Korean fashion designer blending traditional art & modern design. From Seoul Olympics uniforms to Parisian acclaim, explore her innovative textiles & cultural heritage.

Seoul Design Foundation (Seoul, South Korea)

Located within the Zaha Hadid-designed Dongdaemun Design Plaza, the Seoul Design Foundation offers an immersive journey through cutting-edge innovation and urban creativity that invites you to explore the future of design.

Traditional Korean embroidery has been used as a motif for this vest. Every embroidery stitch has been applied one by one by hand and the color was made by repeatedly dying and depigmenting the fabric. And seeing that this vest is a perfect match with this crinoline skirt made 20 years later, shows how modern and aesthetic the design was.
