Serpent

joseph hooton taylor jr. (1941 –)

Discover joseph hooton taylor jr.'s contributions to astrophysics, including his Nobel Prize-winning discovery of a new type of pulsar. Explore his impact on the study of gravitation and related fields.

Serpents were the bass instruments of wind and military bands before the tuba took over. They are usually carved from wood with leather binding but making one from copper is probably a better idea if you are playing outdoors in Scotland. This example is also unusual in being made in mirror-image to most serpents, perhaps for a left-handed musician.University of Edinburgh, Musical Instrument Collection: MIMEd 191
