From the Artist: I had just registered for my first collage class at a new arts studio in Tarrytown, N.Y. My sister, Margaret McCarthy (artist/photographer) gave me this class as aChristmas present. I wouldn’t have been able to afford the $450.00 registration. Our class met until we were sequestered to our home dwellings for the Covid-19 Pandemic. The news came to us of rising deaths and bustling hospitals with makeshift morgues in parking lots. The nurses and doctors fell and rose each day to care for the ill. We were scared. Our nation was blanketed with the Pandemic. I reached for my art supplies to create, when all were sleeping. I went to my coffee table and started to take what supplies I had in the house. We were in a semi-lockdown. Artistic expression was now a refuge for me. I found solace each day in my work. It was a creative outlet and helped me cope with the surrounding angst and anxiety. It helped me deal with the intense fear of the unknown.
