      Red-lacquered and Mother-of-pearl-inlaid Furniture Owned by Empress Sunjeong-hyo : Bed

      This Mother-of-pearl-inlaid Bed is presumably owned by the Empress Sunjeong-hyo, the last empress of the Joseon Dynasty, due to its period and the Red-lacquered furniture only for royal family in the palaces. It embodies the modern Joseon imperial household’s efforts to adopt and personally practice foreign material culture, making it even more valuable. In addition, being the first bed for the imperial household produced by a native and single craftsman makes it even more meaningful. The front and rear panels of the bed also reproduced Yi Doyeong’s painting of the Cliffs of Myriad Configurations at Geumgangsan Mountain, and the application of the design is the same as in the Wardrobes.
