Collectible Description

Kiril Tsonev studied first at the State School of Arts in Sofia, continuing his studies in Vienna and later he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He specialized in the field of painting, conservation and restoration. He worked in Munich until 1929, where he participated in the exhibitions organized by the Jury-Frei association. During said period, the artist showed interest in New Objectivity (Neue Sachlichkeit) in painting. His works stressed the objective structural essence of forms, paying far less attention to painterly expressions. In 1930, Tsonev left for Latin America to spend two years in Mexico and Cuba, where he worked with Diego Rivera. The artist preserved his interest in the shaping of forms, yet the colorfulness of his paintings became more intense under the influence of the new environment.
