La révolution sera féminine (Revolution will be female)

Marcel Dzama (1974 –)
Marcel Dzama: Contemporary Canadian artist known for intricate ink & watercolor drawings, dioramas, & whimsical worlds blending fantasy, history, & personal narratives. Exhibited internationally.
Reinterpreting the communicative codes of Soviet propaganda and the mythical feminist slogan, the work entitled La révolution será féminine opens a small window into the universe of references of Marcel Dzama (Canada, 1974). “My drawings are a rebellion”, says the artist while presenting his political commitment. Through a proposal influenced by Surrealism and by artists like Raymond Pettibon, Marcel Dzama builds a body of work radically traversed by social demands. In his pieces, injustice and the most disadvantaged groups find a space to shout their needs to the world. An intimate and intimidating praxis acts as a loudspeaker for dissident discourses.
