In the late 1980s, with the economy of his native Dominican Republic on unstable footing, Pepe Coronado left home to make his way in the United States as an artist and photographer. In his recent body of work, Coronado turns his lens to the complicated web of political and cultural exchange between the United States and the Dominican Republic. The US once occupied the DR, until a coup d’etate ushered in three decades of rule under the brutal and bloody regime of Rafael Trujilo. Coronado
