Charlotte Schatz typically created cast and fabricated sculpture from metals, plastics, glass, wood, and mirrors during the period of the sixties through the early eighties and began painting in oils, acrylics and mixed media as early as 1983. Upon moving her studio to Philadelphia’s Northern Liberties in 1995, she began focusing on abandoned buildings in her neighborhood, rendering them in an abstract style that explored the geometry and architecture of the landscape. Jack Frost Sugar Refinery is one such work that dates to 1997. Her interest is not in accuracy of perspective or color, but in expression.A graduate of Tyler School of Art (B.F.A), Schatz taught sculpture and design at Bucks County Community College from 1973 through 2005.
